An interview with SCI Surfaces

Our Manager of Purchasing, Mitch Ross, sat down with Sarah Harrington from SCI Surfaces our trade partner for countertops. 

Tell us about the history of SCI? How long have you guys been around? Where did the name come from?  Our roots date back over 25 years providing tile and countertops in the KC area. We have evolved into full-service fabrication facility specializing in natural stone, quartz and solid surface countertops.  SCI originally stood for Surface Center Interiors… but now we prefer SCI Surfaces!

What did the early days look like compared to your current setup?   Our current showroom and shop are constantly being updated with the latest styles and tools for fabrication. Continuous performance is in our genetics!

How long have you been a trade partner with Summit?  Just over two years

What type of products does SCI Surfaces offer to Summit homeowners?  Quartz, Natural Stone and Solid Surface. Quartz is what we do most, though. 

How many team members do you have? And how much product do you run through your shop?  We have close to 90 employees and we're currently running over 250,000 square feet of tops annually.

Sarah, tell us a little bit about your role in SCI?  As Sales and Marketing Manager, I support our sales team, as well as our project managers, estimators, showroom consultants, and our marketing team. Brian Lauridsen is the Project Manager on the Summit account and does an incredible job of managing all the moving parts in regard to Summitt surfaces!

What does the future hold for SCI?  We have strong Core Values that guide our business decisions, and our ultimate sales promise is to be flexible, professional, and reliable.

What is your favorite Summit floor plan?  The Prescott. Open and inviting spaces are right up my alley!

What countertop trends are you seeing that you really love?  Warm tones, dramatic veins, and textured surfaces work with the bold colors that are becoming more popular.

What has been the craziest custom request you have gotten for a home project? Feature walls are usually the most intricate and detailed. We can do a lot with natural stone and quartz. It’s truly an art, but it takes time and creativity, and many times require a significant investment.

Any other comments or information you would like us to share with our other trade partners?  Our favorite projects to work on are the Raising Hope KC homes. We know that these homes help by giving back to our communities in so many ways.
