Trade Spotlight: Shamrock Cabinet

June 18, 2020

Summit's exclusive partner for cabinetry is Shamrock Cabinet & Fixtures. After more than 10 years working together, we decided to do a deeper dive into Shamprock's history and processes. We had the opportunity to sit down with Steve for an inside look at the company.

He started off by telling us the history of how Shamrock was started. Shamrock Cabinet was incorporated in 1966. Bill Price, the owner, was a Raytown High School Senior who came up with the name when in study hall with his future wife Deanna. Bill said he liked the symbol of a shamrock and thought it would look good on logo. He started building cabinets with a buddy for single jobs and one job led to more then many.  They have been located in Raytown since 1976, and found this location was optimal due to being right in the middle of the Kansas City metro area. Steve's been with Shamrock going on 32 years. He started out sanding cabinets and putting the doors and drawers on them. He now designs and managed projects.

They are currently in the second generation of ownership and are very proud to be progressive and stay on the leading edge of technology and safety in their production. They are a 100% custom cabinet shop and make all types of cabinets that typically go into a new house. Their product line includes kitchens, vanities, book cases, bars, and an occasional hutch or entertainment center.  They field measure each house so every job is unique and custom to the home.

During the early days, they had around a dozen employees that worked with hand tools and table saws. Eventually, Shamrock grew to 250 employees with 3 production shifts. During the late 1990’s they began investing in technology and using C & C equipment. They continued to invest in machinery to become fully digital and minimize waste. They became very efficient and very safe. Because of these advances they came out of the recession with around 125 employees, but produces close to the same amount of product in one shift compared to the days of 250 employees and 3 shifts.  Depending on the size of the job, they can produce anywhere from 7 to 10 kitchens a day.

In 2002, Steve was measuring a house for a builder in Lee’s Summit and when he walked out he saw a new builder by the name of Fred Delibero building his first house next door. Fred, now CEO of Summit, was in need of a cabinet guy. They struck up a great conversation and Steve knew he could help. We've been partnered with Shamrock Cabinets ever since.
