"How Does an Energy Rating Work?"

May 20, 2013

Last week, RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network) posted this infographic to explain how energy ratings work. You've probably heard us say that all Summit homes are energy rated (and that they're rated at up to twice as efficient than other homes!), but have you ever wondered exactly what an energy rating is and how it works? Read on to find out! May_2013_infographic_o1v2 At Summit Custom Homes, we take steps to maximize energy efficiency and to protect indoor quality. We incorporate sustainable building practices into every home we build. Every single home we build is independently inspected and awarded a HERS rating to document the home's energy efficiency. As we mentioned above, our homes are nearly twice as efficient as homes built just ten years ago! Healthier indoor air quality is achieved by using formaldehyde-free insulation; low or no VOC (volatile organic compound) paints, glues, and sealants where available; a passive radon remediation system; sealed air distribution ductwork; and a high-particulate MERV-11 furnace filter. This all translates into decreased utility bills, and, most importantly, a healthier and more comfortable living environment for your family.
