Progress Report: 2015 St. Jude Dream Home at Chapman Farms

April 21, 2015

DSC02471 Since we broke ground on the 2015 St. Jude Dream Home back in January, the Dream Team has been hard at work: where there was just an empty lot ten weeks ago, there is now a (very large!) house. Spencer Yohn, the Project Manager for this year’s home, has been leading teams from many of our generous and dedicated trade partners to get the home built as quickly and efficiently as possible. Without the donations of supplies and labor from our national sponsors and local trade partners, it would not be possible for us to reach our goal of building another St. Jude Dream Home at zero-cost. A zero-cost home means we can give every bit of the proceeds from the giveaway to the children at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. DSC02252 We would like to thank the Apex Engineering and Van Deurzen & Associates for donating engineering services and also the City of Blue Springs, who covered the cost of the permitting fees for the second year in a row. We also need to thank Engineering Solutions for taking care of surveying needs for the project. 20150210_132634 Thanks also goes to Gridiron Construction for excavating services, ABI Corporation for pouring the foundation, and Showme Ready Mix, LLC and Century Concrete for donating concrete. Welch Silt Fence & Erosion Control, LLC provided the silt fence around the lot. DSC02194 We’d like to give a shout out to the awesome framing crew from Lumber One and also to McCray Lumber, Owen Lumber, and 84 Lumber for donating the wood needed to frame the house. Carlson Systems kindly provided all of the nails and screws needed to complete the framing as well. Ray Cochran and Co. poured the basement floor, with help from Kaw Valley Concrete, who generously donated the use of the pump needed. One the framing was up, Century Roofing completed the roof and work started going into the interior of the home. We have even more amazing trade partners to thank for this stage of construction. Apex Heating and Cooling installed the HVAC system, with an energy-efficient furnace provided by St. Jude national sponsor Trane. Century Plumbing installed all of the plumbing while Arrow Circle Electric Inc., installed the electrical system. American Drywall put up all of the drywall and Complete Home concepts donated two fireplaces, one for the main level and another on the second story. Construction will continue through the spring, so stay tuned for more updates! The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway is the largest single event fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and all proceeds from the raffle benefit the children St. Jude. Tickets for the giveaway of the 2015 St. Jude Dream Home at Chapman Farms will go on sale June 1st and the home will be raffled off at the end of the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City’s Fall Parade of Homes on October 18th. At St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, no child is ever denied for their inability to pay. St. Jude is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. The hospital freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance.
