WHAT TO DO IF YOUR POWER GOES OUT IN KANSAS CITY
February 20, 2018
If the power goes out, are you prepared? As winter sets in, it’s a great time to get ready for ice and the potential power outages that comes with it. KCPL has web and mobile tools to help you report and track power outages.
- Things to consider now: Develop shelter plans, assemble a severe weather kit, consider surge protection devices, keep a landline phone as a back up for your mobile, learn how to open your garage manually and store water/non-perishable food items.
- Things to consider 24 hours in advance: stock up on groceries/water, fill your car with gas, bring pet inside, turn you faucets to drip to help pipes from freezing.
- During the storm: Stay away from power lines, report power outages online or at 1-888-LIGHT-KC, use battery powered flashlights, wear layers and for more safety tips from KCPL click here.
- See the map of outages for up to date info in your area.
- Download the Kansas City Weather Radar Ap (Storm Tracker 5)
- Report you outage here.
Stay warm and safe this winter season!
