10 ideas for a great summer in Kansas City

School is out, the temperature is rising and the days are getting longer. It's time to plan all your go-to summer outings. Summit Homes is building communities all over the metro and everywhere you go, something fun will find you. Here are our ten ideas to have a great summer in Kansas City. 

1- Bouldevardia (June 14th & 15th) - Boulevardia is a two-day urban street festival taking place in Kansas City's Stockyards District. The event features a craft beer and food sampling, live music, as well as family activities, entertainment and shopping, all in a unique urban setting.

2- City Market - Merchants offer a variety of fresh produce, meats, baked goods, flowers and other items from all over the world. The City Market is home to a unique collection of gift shops, restaurants and the Arabia Steamboat Museum. Want MORE KC? Visit on Friday, August 16th for 816 Day, named after the local area code and celebrates all things Kansas City.

3- KC Riverfest - KC RiverFest is the #1 Independence Day celebration in the region, located on the beautiful Berkley Riverfront from 3 - 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4th. The day will feature family-friendly entertainment and activities, tons of food vendors, plus the BEST fireworks show with two stages of live music.

4 - Betty Rae's Ice Cream - It's not summer without a few (dozen) trips to the ice cream shop. Don't miss out on this favorite that offers funky flavors, notable collaborations and house-made waffle cones. You may wait in line, but it's totally worth it.

5 -Shatto Milk Company Farm Tour - Learn how the milk gets from the farm to your table, take a tour of the processing plant, see the bottling process, meet some adorable calves, milk a cow, visit where the cows eat, sleep and how they’re milked. And while you're there, sample everything from milk to ice cream!

6 - Jazzoo - Rub elbows and touch paws as the KC Zoo celebrates 30 years! Be a part of the wildest fundraiser in Kansas City where party animals from across the metro will join one another to enjoy food, drinks, and entertainment while raising money for our hometown Zoo. Jazzoo helps provide food for more than 1,700 animals and supports our Zoo Learning Fund. Friday, June 7th at 7:30.

7 - Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun  - Spend the day on thrilling rides or splashtacular slides. Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun offers season passes that opens 236 acres of fun for kids and adults of all ages. Don't miss out on the Grand Carnivale from July 13th to August 4th beginning at 5pm to celebrate cultures from around the world. This carnival includes crafts and games, foods from around the globe, live music and astounding entertainment. Take part in the Spectacle of Color interactive light parade, complete with floats, authentic music and street performers.

8 - Visit the Up-Down arcade bar in the Crossroads Arts District that has giant Jenga and an upstairs party balcony. You’ll find a list full of local brews and old-school arcade games back on the first floor. It's the perfect spot to meet friends, grab a couple of drinks and act like a kid again.

9 - KC Royals - Nothing says summer like a day at the K. Kauffman Stadium, home to the Kansas City Royals, welcomes families from all over the metro to cheer on our boys in blue. And no matter when you decide to go, almost every game has a theme. Grab your peanuts and cracker jacks and help celebrate their 47th season!

10 - Miller Hot Country Nights at KC Live! - Check out the Kansas City Power & Light District for FREE country concerts every Thursday night. Artists like Justin Moore, Randy Houser and Travis Marvin will perform.
