5 Things You Should Know About Raymore
November 16, 2015
Why the south side suburb is the new place to be in KC
1. IT'S GROWING
Raymore is one of the fastest-growing communities in the Kansas City metro. The population has grown over 70% in the past ten years, and development of the community has remained steady despite the slower national economy. Raymore is consistently ranked among the top communities in KC in terms of residential building rates, and in 2014 the city issued 159 residential building permits, which accounted for more than half of all residential development in Cass County. More and more jobs are coming to Raymore too - 17 commercial building permits were issued and more than 1,000 new businesses opened there in 2014.
2. IT'S CLOSE
Raymore is becoming popular with young families who want the amenities of the suburbs but also want to be able to get to all the entertainment KC has to offer quickly and easily. It’s less than 20 miles south of downtown Kansas City and residents have convenient access to US-71, which makes travel to popular destinations easy and fast. It takes less than 20 minutes to reach the Country Club Plaza, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, historic Westport, and Arrowhead and Kauffman stadiums. US-71 will take you pretty much straight to the Power & Light District and Sprint Center, and Crown Center, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and the Crossroads district are all just a couple blocks west off the highway.
3. IT'S SAFE
Raymore was ranked among the top ten safest places in Missouri in 2014 by Movoto Real Estate. Movoto used crime statistics compiled by the FBI to analyze cities all over Missouri and assign them safety scores based on the FBI data. Also, Raymore’s population predominantly lives in owner-occupied single-family detached housing, a commonly cited characteristic of stable and strong communities.
4. IT'S FAMILY-ORIENTED
Raymore offers residents a wide variety of services and programming through its active Parks and Recreation department. Community events are hosted year-round in four well-maintained parks, which feature two stocked fishing lakes, a skate park, a baseball complex, and playground equipment. Raymore also hosts a low cost daily summer camp program and a Nature Quest program for students throughout the school year. The annual Arts in the Park event and Harvest Night festivities feature kids’ activities and offer live music and showcase local artists and performers. Skate competitions, movie nights in the park and several community holiday celebrations take place throughout the year.
5. IT'S GOING GREEN
Raymore has over 10 miles of paved walking, jogging and biking trails across the city, and work to expand the network and connect existing paths is already underway. The Original Town Farmer’s Market is a Raymore tradition with area growers and artisans selling affordable local foods, crafts and plants throughout the summer and fall months. Raymore was also named a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation in 2014 for its commitment to urban forestry and tree preservation and planting.
