Women in Construction: Kristi Pinnick

March 19, 2022

Summit Homes is grateful to have several incredibly strong female leaders on our team. In honor of Women's History Month, we wanted to pause and feature a few team members.

Meet Kristi Pinnick, VP of Sales & Design.

We sat down to ask Kristi a few questions about her career, role models and why she chose the new construction industry.

Tell us about a female role model or leader that helped you become the leader you are today?

I am lucky enough to be surrounded by super awesome women.  One person who stands out is Amy McDonald.  I met her years ago but really connected through Business Networking Inc (BNI). She has guided me through the years and given me advice that helped get me to where I am today.

How did you make your way to the construction industry?

I was a furniture and lighting buyer for years before getting into Real Estate. I worked with builders all over Kansas City and that introduced me to the passion of new construction.  Once I received my Real Estate license and started living life every day, I couldn’t get enough. When the opportunity was brought to me to work for Summit Homes, I couldn’t pass it up.

What is a piece of advice you would share with women wanting to work in the construction industry?

I would say, what are you waiting for?  There is so much opportunity for women in construction.

What has been the most memorable moment in your career?

Getting promoted. I now hold my dream job!

What’s the best part of your job?

Seeing the success of the team that works for me.  I love celebrating all the great things they do.  They make me proud!

How do you think construction can attract more female candidates?

Recruiting is the best way. So many females are still afraid to work for an industry that for years has been run by men.  They need to know firsthand that the need for more women in this industry is crucial.

What makes you proud to work in the construction industry?

I have always loved a challenge.  Because this industry is always changing, the challenges come almost daily.  Plus, the people are so incredible in the construction industry.

What are you currently reading or listening to?

I just downloaded Brene Brown, Atlas of the Heart.

What’s the one piece of advice you’ve been giving that made a big impact?

Be assertive.
